ABOUT THE ARTIST

An English marine biologist and author, Saville-Kent worked for various museums and aquariums in Britain before taking a job as inspector of fisheries in Tasmania at the age of 39. He longed to do marine research and found his chance in the Great Barrier Reef, where he immersed himself in collecting, painting, and drawing its vivid life forms. He broke new ground as the first to extensively depict a coral reef using photography, while his watercolor sketches bring the flourishing reef alive in all its multicolored glory.
